Star Wars Adventures: The Clone Wars: Battle Tales #2 by Michael Moreci
"The Clone Wars: Battle Tales Chapter 2" written by Michael Moreci, illustrated by Derek Charm & Luis Antonio Delgado (frame story) and Megan Levens & Charlie Kirchoff (story within a story)
I really enjoyed this one! It brought in some old familiar characters like Wat Tambor, some lesser known clones like Comet and Sinker, and made a connection to the TV show with the D-wing Air Support Droids! I am always up for a good canon connection ride!! The story within a story was super engaging and fun and featured typical battle droid humor which always puts a smile on my face. It was a complete story with an absolute wonderful ending moral that we all should take to heart. The opening parable on the title page was, "The path to unity is guided by trust." which relates to the idea of the Jedi Generals trusting their clone troopers to do what is right all on their own. This issue really did have a feel good air to it and I enjoyed the read so very much!
We start off on Hisseen with Obi-Wan and Anakin engaging Ventress and Dooku in battle while Plo Koon tries to get a message out to Commander Wolffe. Plo Koon only manages to get a few garbled words and a set of coordinates through, leaving it up to Wolffe and his soldiers to determine how to move forward. The question hangs in the air: can clones be trusted to carry out missions on their own?? The answer? Of course they can! And so begins the story within a story.
The Nexus (a trading post, see image below) above the planet Quarmendy is an impenetrable fortress controlled by Wat Tambor after he took over from the custodian, Orkle (such a wonderful name lol! see image below). The battle droids conferring with Tambor about an imminent Republic attack are in perfect form, humorous as ever!
The specific Republic group carrying out the attack are Plo Koon's troops, the Wolf Pack (including Comet and Sinker, see them jet-packing to the Nexus below). We even get to see those awesome flying B1s (D-wing Air Support Droids, see image below for a reminder) from the "Bad Batch" arc of the TV show!!! Will the clones be able to save Tambor's hostage Orkle?? Will they be able to capture the Nexus away from the Separatist forces?? Trust me when I say, the answers to these questions warm the heart as they develop in an unexpected way.

I'm super excited about this series moving forward and this issue has me even more engaged than the first (check out my review of Chapter 1 here) so I couldn't be happier. And the artwork and colors are fun and a joy to take in! I was just happy they were continuing The Clone Wars story in any form, but this is a great way to do just that!
