This issue included one second-half of a comic (taking us back to the prequel era) and another singular comic (taking us back to the early Galactic Empire). I love the variety 100%!! But the stories in this issue were a bit shakey (strange story-moral connection to the action in the comic AND just a weirdly off moral when you really look at what's going on). It was a fun read, don't get me wrong--and you'll find some major Qui-Gon praise below. But last issue definitely took the cake.---

This comic continues the story of Qui-Gon and Padawan Obi-Wan on Kashyyyk celebrating Life Day with some old friends of Qui-Gon's. Unfortunately, a group of Trandoshans came barreling in, kidnapping Wookiees...and Qui-Gon. The Trandoshan surprise last issue was spot on and such a fantastic canon connection!! We start this issue with the image of Qui-Gon in a cage...like a literal cage (see below).
Him and the head Trandoshan, Korgan, banter back and forth as the Master tries to negotiate for them leaving his Padawan alone. At the end of their exchange, they trade a very Star Wars-y trope and I am so here for it (see below): Qui-Gon says, "Your greed will be your downfall." and Korgan says, "And your arrogance will be yours!" It's definitely a classic and so over-the-top ridiculous--using the word "downfall" haha. But I guess Star Wars is all about the big bad against the big good, so the epicness works. But can you imagine such a conversation in real life??
I do find it interesting that Qui-Gon says greed will be Korgan's downfall when in The Phantom Menace he says verbatim, "Greed can be a powerful ally." So is it a bad thing or a good thing? And what does he really mean by this quality being an ally?? Like more in a "I can manipulate people by using their greed against them kinda way"?? Hmmm...
Another fun tidbit is when Obi-Wan bursts on the scene and starts blustering JUST like Anakin in front of the enemy. It is hilarious and wonderful. Also, we all know Obi-Wan was able to rescue Qui-Gon, but how did he do it? Let's just say the comic ends with Qui-Gon saying, "Trickery? Misdirection? Dare I say, Obi-Wan...that I'm delighted to find you so full of surprises." This is too preciously Qui-Gon! He's so devious but only for the best of reasons. I could definitely use more of him in my life!
Although the underlying moral's connection to the action in the story was a bit muddy, it's still a great lesson to learn--"life" is always teaching you something new. This was a perfect story for a 2-parter and divided nicely into the 1st and 2nd Acts but still worked together as a unified story and the image of all the Wookiees celebrating was just adorable (see below)!

This comic was a singular issue that told a story of Val and Beckett...one that's ending was I'm assuming intended to be romantic...but it was just weird!!! Now, I'll be the first person to jump up and get more Solo: A Star Wars Story content, but this one just felt off.
It starts with Val telling the reader, "Have you ever loved someone? Like, really loved someone? Except the only problem is...they're an idiot." Okay, so at least she feels more than an equal match for Beckett, but if you read through to the end...you really start wondering how much she's letting Beckett's idiocy control her life and her circumstances. It honestly makes me a little uncomfortable. I mean, Beckett does some pretty messed up things and then he's like, look at the pretty picnic I made you with live music, wine, and a campfire (see below). As if gifts can ever really wash away misdoings. I just am not a fan of the moral of this story.
Besides that, the tale was adventurous, exciting, action-packed, etc...but it all just felt so hollow. *sigh*

So overall enjoyable, but last issue was where it's at. I hope we continue to see a movement in that direction...
