This collection was simply a joy! I do so love this first run of "Star Wars Adventures." Despite the lackluster first issue of the second run, I'm holding out hope it will be just as fantastic!!

"Kidnapped" written by Ian Flynn, illustrated by Megan Levens and Charlie Kirchoff

This comic takes place during the time Poe was flying for the New Republic in Rapier Squadron. His squad is in the middle of a firefight with pirates (see below) in the Mirrin Sector, and they're winning until Poe's X-wing gets hit with an ion pulse and all his systems go down...and he gets caught in a tractor beam, leading him to be kidnapped, hence the title. BB-8 looks super busted up and the pirates ignore him...much to their detriment!! He sends coordinates to the rest of Rapier Squadron and they swoop in to save Poe. Other members of Rapier Squadron (Poe's the leader) are Iolo, Muran, and Kare (!!!).

It's a super short and sweet comic without much meat to it, but we do get to see Poe grandstanding to the pirate leader (check him out below) which is always a fun time!!

"The Right Wrong Turn" written by Delilah S. Dawson, illustrated by Margaux Saltel

First I want to say that I came into this volume knowing nothing about its contents and I briefly flipped through the pages before reading. I ran across Leia with a woman who has multicolored hair and thought, "Please let this be Amilyn Holdo!!" Then I read the back cover, and lo and behold, it IS her (see below)!!! This has me so incredibly happy. As I state time and time again, these "Star Wars Adventures" comics are SO good with canon connections it brings me delight beyond compare!!

I am so delighted that this is typical Amilyn from the young adult novel Leia: Princess of Alderaan and it is fabulous!! Which makes sense because Leia makes several mentions of her parents putting this during the time they were Apprentice Legislators as teenagers. The premise is that Leia and Amilyn are on Coruscant and Leia is going to teach her friend how to drive a speeder. One of Amilyn's first lines is, "Oh, I know where my feet are. Now I want to find my wings." Dun dun dun...looks like Leia's in for a treat, haha! And then when Leia's trying to get her to take things slow and check out the speeder's calibrations before getting started, "Oh, I feel confident. This speeder has a calm aura." Turns out Amilyn has other plans for their day...finding the Lost Museum of Level 4...yes, all the way down deep deep in the depths of Coruscant. Will they find it?? Will they run into trouble along the way?? Will Amilyn actually learn how to drive??

This comic was incredibly charming and I found myself giggling throughout! Give me teenage Amilyn Holdo any time!!!

"Life Lessons" written by Cavan Scott, illustrated by Derek Charm

Rey is on Ahch-To training with Luke and is upset and frustrated that he's not letting her do bigger and more showy things with the Force. He admits that he was similar when he was going through the same experience back on Dagobah with Yoda. In her rash intensity to prove herself, she lifts two hapless Lanai off the ground and awakens a Pallaskean (see below). Well, this story ends up being one of Star Wars' favorite tropes...I'll let you guess what it is--big beastie being all angry for "no reason"...hmmm...

Although this trope is getting a little worn what with it being the 3rd such instance in canon (the other two were in "Forces of Destiny" and "Resistance", it was still a cute story and Chewie definitely had some stand out moments!

"Tales from Wild Space: Win/Lose" written by Shaun Harris, illustrated by Manuel Bracchi and Matt Herms

I adore these "Tales from Wild Space" so much and am sorely disappointed that they have been cut from the new run of "Star Wars Adventures." I'm going to miss Emil, Boo, and CR-8R *tear*. But at least I still have a couple more TPBs to devour to get my fill before they are no more.

Emil is playing dejarik with CR-8R and the droid is winning every game. Boo wonders how Emil can put up with CR-8R being so pompous about winning and Emil begins his tale. This one is about "Bilk Plessey, the famous dejarik player" (he's the Rodian in the image below) playing in the Galactic Dejarik Association Championship Tournament. Maz Kanata attempts to make him approach the tournament with humility but he will do no such thing and challenges Maz to enter!! Although it's in an unorthodox sense, Maz wins the day and Bilk looks a fool. Emil tells Boo that getting portion bread and nuna milk courtesy of CR-8R in exchange for a few games is totally worth losing. So cute!!

"Tales from Wild Space: Alone in the Dark" written by Adam Christopher, illustrated by Megan Levens and Charlie Kirchoff

CR-8R is adjusting to his new eyes and is none too happy about being blind. Emil begins a story about a pilot--Tallissan Lintra (!!!)--who was once in the dark. Tallie is supposed to be training Stomeroni Starck but ice and snow scrub the mission. But Tallie hears a distress signal and follows it, against orders, into the gas cloud... Will she find someone truly in need?? Or will she find trouble?? This is a heartwarming little story with a surprising solution!

This was such a fabulous collection of comics. I truly enjoyed every minute of my time reading this and highly recommend it as I do ALL the TPBs from the first "Star Wars Adventures" run!! And to end, check out this ridiculous image of Luke and Rey sitting on Ahch-To with Porgs on their heads!!!
