The Mandalorian: Season 1: Volume 1 (Screen Comix)

The Mandalorian: Season 1: Volume 1 (Screen Comix)

I've definitely grown to appreciate these Screen Comix publications and for the most part this was no exception. Because it lays out all the dialogue very clearly, I was able to catch bits that I did not catch simply by watching the show. But...and I guess it's honestly a big but...there is such a great amount of action that I kept getting lost in the panels. Action is just so much more visually clear when it's actually moving than when you have stills of an action heavy scene. With real comics it's different because the artists can add in shading, lines, and the like that suggest movement. Since this is just panels of stills from a live action TV show, the same cannot be done which makes the scenes with a lot of movement really difficult to parse out. Although I am totally in love with the lettering overlaying the still shots which is what makes these Screen Comix books so unique!! I've included a few of my favorite lettered images below.

Oh! And I should probably mention that being Volume 1 of Season 1 this book only covers the first 4 episodes.

Now on to the trivia that slipped my noticing when watching the show:

-The place where Mando orders a speeder to come pick him up on the snowy planet the show opens up on is called "The Boardwalks" and Mando asks for passage to his ship which is in "The Yards."

-Greef Karga pays Mando in both Imperial Credits and Calamari Flan (see below).

-Apparently male blurrgs are eaten during mating!! Yikes!

-When Mando is speaking to the Jawas after they stripped the Razor Crest, one of the Jawas says, "You sound like a Wookiee." in regards to Mando's attempt at Jawaese.

-According to Greef, there are Twi'lek Healing Baths somewhere close to Nevarro.

-Originally, after finishing the Grogu job, Mando was supposed to be bringing in a nobleman's son who skipped bail somewhere in the Ocean Dunes of Karnac.

-On Sorgan, Omera's daughter's name is Winta.

-A Grinjer is some sort of large game beast on Sorgan.

-Two of the krill farmers on Sorgan who helped fight the raiders were Caben and Stoke.

-Mando and Grogu stayed on Sorgan in the krill farming village for several weeks.

And finally, I'll end off with some more pictures from the book!!

Below is an example of what I meant above by confusing action stills:

Below is a fabulous still of the Mythrol's facial expression when the ravinak is attacking at the very beginning of the pilot episode.

Below is a wonderfully spooky still of the raiders' AT-ST staring down the krill farming village on Sorgan.

Below is a beautiful overhead view of the krill farming village on Sorgan.

So a fun read with some pretty great visuals and some not so great visuals, but enjoyable nonetheless. I look forward to seeing if they do a Vol. 2 for Season 1!! I'd love the opportunity to catch even more tidbits that I missed out on from not paying close enough attention.
