"Bounty Hunters #14: War of the Bounty Hunters: The Following" by Ethan Sacks

"Bounty Hunters #14: War of the Bounty Hunters: The Following" written by Ethan Sacks, illustrated by Paolo Villanelli and Arif Prianto

This issue was a good one!! It contained lots of discernible action, introductions of new characters that fit into the story well, intrigue around Qi'ra, and a truly exciting moving of the story forward.

Valance and Dengar are on Nar Shaddaa, having just avoided being killed by a mysterious hunter they later discover is a skilled assassin named Deathstick (see her on the cover and in action in the gorgeous panel below). T'onga and Losha are on Corellia where T'onga has just encountered a horde of Crimson Dawn enforcers at the Sanctuary of the Mourner's Wail Syndicate. Things are looking bad for all our protagonists!

Just as one of the enforcers is about to finish T'onga off, she whistles for the Nexu who comes bounding into the fray, devouring said enforcer. I'm loving this whole pet Nexu thing, but I'm still struggling with how ugly and monstrous the creature is portrayed in the comic. See what I mean in the image below. The Nexu from Attack of the Clones was incredibly vicious, but was still so freaking cute.

And turns out Dengar has a direct line to Bib Fortuna, but it's not because he's sneaky. A woman he cares about named Manaroo who might be Pantoran (she's all blue) is being held captive by Jabba as incentive for Dengar to find Boba Fett. After his call to Bib leaves him in a tizzy, Mama Stammoch, a stout, rough-looking woman who Dengar used to swoop race for (and who he owes a lot of money--see her below) goes into the history of Crimson Dawn and I am so here for it!! See the images below of the Shadow Collective and of Qi'ra carting off carbonite-encased Han superimposed over Dryden Vos's Kyuzo petar-holding hand. The imagery in this issue was stellar!

We leave off with T'onga and Losha on a mission to return Cadeliah to her grandfather and Dengar and Boba Fett still running for their lives. I am so thankful that this series hasn't dropped its previous storylines in favor of pushing "War of the Bounty Hunters." Both are present and in just the right amounts. Can't wait to see what happens next!!

Trivia:

-The awesome lesbian couple in this series, T'onga and Losha (pink hair--see her being all bada** and defending her wife below) are married!!

-Khamdek is the Mourner's Wail member who is grandfather to Cadeliah (father to her father Khamus who Nakano Lash shot and killed just as Khamus was about to kill Cadeliah's mother while pregnant with her). He gets shot by the Crimson Dawn enforcers but is saved by T'onga, anxious to meet this newfound relative!! My hopes have definitely been raised that good will come for the tragic life of Cadeliah. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see...
