Showdown at the Fair (High Republic) by George Mann

Showdown at the Fair (High Republic) written by George Mann, illustrated by Petur Antonsson

This children's book is the young reader entry in the Rising Storm (adult novel), Race to Crashpoint Tower (middle grade novel), and Out of the Shadows (young adult novel) grouping of High Republic books--the second grouping we've gotten so far. Showdown at the Fair takes place concurrently with Rising Storm and Race to Crashpoint Tower, with Out of the Shadows taking place completely after.

This book tries to be Burryaga's story--the Wookiee Padawan of Nib Assek. It even takes a very brief scene from Rising Storm and expands it to cover ten pages of narrative and full color artwork. But it drops the Burryaga point of view a couple of times and is mostly a very general telling of the second half of the adult novel. It also did some weird skipping in the end with Burryaga crash landing one page and an overview summing up the ending of the attack on the fair on the next. This made the flow feel very disconnected.

Regardless, I will say that this was a great visual representation of characters and technology which was definitely exciting. Plus, there are two pages of stickers (see below)!!

One bit of trivia: When the Royal Togruta Fleet shows up to aid in the counter-attack against the Nihil, it is Trido Tamaree who announces their identity over comms.

That's really all I have to say about this one as it was a children's adaptation of half a book that I've already written an extensive review on--check that out at the link above. So I'll leave you with several informative images to end:
