Galaxy of Adventures Chapter Book by Meredith Rusu
Galaxy of Adventures Chapter Book written by Meredith Rusu
This was an enjoyable romp through the prequels and original trilogy...albeit mostly the original trilogy, which wasn't a surprise since the opening crawl was all about Luke Skywalker. There were no references to the sequels and being as this was released in September 2019, that was a surprise. I would've preferred a more well rounded journey through the Skywalker Saga but it was still a fun read. The fascinating thing about this chapter book was its separation into small chunks that were easily digestible and made for a super quick read through. Every page turned was another two page section making it very hard to stop reading. And although it uses the "Galaxy of Adventures" branding and all the images (some span two pages and really are fun to look at) are from the YouTube show, the content isn't necessarily pulled straight from the mini-episodes. So there's a plethora of content that's "new" at least in regards to "GofA."
The twoish-page sections are divided into 7 parts: The Jedi, The Sith, The Empire, The Rebellion, The Millennium Falcon, Scum & Villainy, and Galactic Battles. The Jedi and The Sith were the only two parts containing prequel characters and information. Galactic Battles unfortunately only concerned the original trilogy--which was super sad since there are so many WONDERFUL prequel battles!! The Jedi covered The Force, Lightsabers, Yoda, Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Luke Skywalker. The Sith covered The Emperor, Darth Maul, Count Dooku, and Darth Vader. The Empire covered Stormtroopers, TIE Fighters, and Star Destroyers. The Rebellion covered Princess Leia, C-3PO & R2-D2, and X-wings. The Millennium Falcon covered Han Solo, Chewbacca, and the ship itself. Scum & Villainy covered Jabba and Boba Fett. Galactic Battles covered the Battle of Yavin, Battle of Hoth, and the Battle of Endor. So as you can see, a lot is covered!! And even ships which was an exciting and welcome turn! ...it just all leans to one side quite heavily.
There are quite a few wonderful little nuggets from this book! I've laid out my favorites below:
On Yoda, "He carried a green lightsaber and became a blur of flips and acrobatics during battle." Yeah he did!!
On Qui-Gon, He "would never see the prophecy come to fruition, but it was his determination that set it in motion." Yay!!! Always makes me happy to see confirmation of Anakin as the Chosen One!
On Anakin, He "was good! He could use the Force to overcome challenges and wield a lightsaber like no other Jedi before him. Perhaps he was the Chosen One." "But as Anakin's strength grew, so did his defiance. He became more arrogant to hide his deep-seated fear of losing the people he loved." Poor confused, broken, and loving Ani!
On Luke's meeting C-3PO & R2-D2, "One droid, named C-3PO, was tall and gold and very anxious. The other droid, R2-D2, was short and silver and very loyal." And 3PO's anxiety is what makes him so gosh darn relatable!
More on C-3PO and R2-D2, "R2-D2 helped a very young Anakin Skywalker control a starfighter during the fight for Naboo's freedom, and decades later, he helped Anakin's son, Luke Skywalker, do the same during the battle against the Death Star. Meanwhile, C-3PO's history runs even deeper. He was actually built by young Anakin Skywalker. Anakin designed the protocol droid to help his mom when they were slaves on Tatooine. But as time went on, C-3PO proved his talent for human-cyborg relations, becoming fluent in over six million forms of communication. At times he's bumbling, but his intentions are always good. R2-D2 and C-3PO met on Tatooine and became best friends. They traveled the universe together, going on many daring missions. C-3PO worries about everything, while R2-D2 stays calm under pressure, making these two perfect companions." This section made my heart smile in a huge grin!!! Love how humanized it makes the two droids.
On Han in the first Death Star, "Instead of just firepower, Han used the power of deception to convince the stormtroopers he was wild--by running straight at them! The stormtroopers were completely confused, giving Han's friends Luke and Leia enough time to make it back to the Millennium Falcon safely." Hahaha!!!! So freaking funny--"he was wild"!
On Maul's death, "With Darth Maul gone, the Jedi Order had no way of determining who his evil master was. But it was only a matter of time before the phantom menace would be revealed." Dun Dun DUN!!! Spooooooky...
Trivia:
-Luke's callsign is Red Five (this one is ingrained in my head by now)
-Wedge's callsign is Red Two

So overall, a read well worth my time if simply to get the chance to relive some of my favorite moments from the first two trilogies!! It would've been great to get some Rey or Finn or Kylo Ren, but alas you won't find that in this book. Definitely recommend this for little ones who are itching to start reading chapter books as it is the perfect beginner reader for a child at that point in their reading journey.
