Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith comic #9: The Dying Light, Part III by Charles Soule
"Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith #9: The Dying Light, Part III" written by Charles Soule, illustrated by Giuseppe Camuncoli, Daniele Orlandini, and David Curiel
A quick read that, despite being comprised mostly of battle, propels the story forward.
We start where the last issue left off with Jocasta Nu jumping down to attack the Grand Inquisitor for going through the archives. She doesn't recognize him which infuriates the poor guy even more against her. Man does he hold a grudge! He attacks with fury and rage and nearly kills her until Vader stops him. As we know from the last issue, the Emperor wants her alive for whatever special Sith knowledge he knows she's keeping hidden.
In what she thinks are her final moments, she recites the same mantra as Chirrut Imwe!! "I am the Force and the Force is with me." I love that they carried that thread through here.
Jocasta is one bada** fighter! I never would've guessed it with her arrogant, smug librarian attitude from Attack of the Clones. But she really throws down. When she turns the fight toward Vader, she even inserts her lightsaber into some sort of gun-type weapon that turns the saber into a giant beam of shooting light! She most definitely doesn't want her archives compromised.
Vader comes across the secret vault guarded by the security droid and the droid recognizes him as Anakin!! The droid calls him Jedi Master Anakin Skywalker which is a little weird since Anakin was on the High Council but never actually granted the title of Master. Interesting. I wonder why he made that mistake and I wonder how angry the mistake made Anakin feel since that was one major sticking point he had with the Jedi--his being kept from the title he felt he deserved. Jocasta overhears that Vader is Anakin and goodness knows what is going to come of her gaining that knowledge! She verbalizes that it makes the situation all the worse.
Will Vader end up accidentally killing her with the fight raging on like it is? Will he get the knowledge he seeks? What other tricks does Jocasta have up her sleeve? We'll find out in the next issue!
