Doctor Aphra comic #29: Worst Among Equals, Part IV by Simon Spurrier
"Doctor Aphra #29: Worst Among Equals, Part IV" written by Simon Spurrier, illustrated by Emilio Laiso and Rachelle Rosenberg
This issue took a very interesting tack with the focus mostly being from the outside of the situation. Aphra and 000 had plenty of "screen" time but it wasn't so much focused on their hijinks as it was on the results of their hijinks. A very interesting take indeed...
We left off last issue with things looking super dire for Aphra and 000!! Vulaada, the young girl helping them out, had in fact betrayed them to law enforcement while at the same time, both Winloss and Nokk and the fungal reanimations of Tam Posla and BT-1 are after their hides!
In this opening scene, I really want to know who the hooded lady in the hologram is (see below). I'm also a bit confused by the flow of the conversation--it doesn't really make much sense. Regardless, an officer dressed in white is standing before the hologram and proclaims that they cannot interfere with the issue of Aphra and 000 since Milvayne took kindly to Imperial occupation only if the Imperials remained hidden. Giant hologram lady disagrees and encourages the officer by emboldening him with, "You are the laser-hot edge of the Emperor's dream! Hold your head high and spit on 'can't', Captain! For we--we few! we cunning! we bold!--we are the coalition for progress! We--are public relations." Very interesting... Apparently the man is on the Imperial Propaganda Flagship called the Enduring Pride.
Tam appears much less spooky, spectral, fungal and much more real, alive, and "human" in this issue. I'm really confused on how that happened. But see below!!!
Apparently there are two systems in the galaxy with laws against undead, fungal policeman. What?!? lmao...that is too funny.
So interestingly enough, as soon as Tam gets found out by the other police officers, he does turn back into being spooky, spectral, fungal! Intriguing how the fungus is able to fake being alive and normal! Also, Tam starts chanting, "The Force is justice and justice is the Force"! echoing Chirrut in a really creepy way. See below for the image of him beginning to turn back into creepy fungal dude.
I really enjoyed the different angle this particular issue took and am extremely interested in how things will pan out from here. Things start to look up for Aphra and 000 but then they start to look way down! It looks like all will to come to a violent end...how will our favorite morally ambiguous "heroes" survive this one?!?
