TIE Fighter #4: The Shadow Falls, Part IV by Jody Houser

"TIE Fighter #4: The Shadow Falls, Part IV" written by Jody Houser, illustrated by Roge Antonio, Ig Guara, Arif Prianto, and Jean-Francois Beaulieu
This was a great issue, gearing us up for the finale which comes next!! Not all that much happens but there are definitely some surprises! On the intro page, we sadly see that both Zin and Lyttan are K.I.A.--Killed in Action (see the end of the review for an image). What a powerful and fitting tribute to these pilots. Remember Lyttan was a main character in the "Imperial Cadet" short-run comic series and Zin was (according to her backstory comic in issue #1) a secret informant to the Rebel Alliance!
We start off with a confusing introduction--Flight Instructor Yurib Nakan who looks an awful lot like the officer from "Imperial Cadet #4"--the guy who was on Han's case while he was a cadet--check out my side by side below. The one on the bottom is from "Imperial Cadet", the one on the top is from "TIE Fighter". The image from "Imperial Cadet" is on Qhulosk and the image from "TIE Fighter" is on Carida and the hair is a bit of a different color--could be aging (but the nose and the lips are a bit different as well...hmmm...I just don't know. Both guys have horribly messed up faces so that can't be a coincidence!).
Anyway, we're back on Carida (where Han started out as a cadet) and meet Cadets Rac Syrmo and Bansu Ro fighting it out over which is the better pilot and gunner...very reminiscent of "Imperial Cadet" actually--which fits in perfectly with the fact that their commander reminds me so much of Han's commander!! Oh, how I love continuity!! Turns out, the Empire has conscripted every cadet into live action ahead of schedule because of the great needs of the war effort.
Check out an awesome image below (Ro is on the left, Syrmo is on the right) of these two once they arrive on Ryleel Base and meet their new squadron (because of their marks, they get to join Shadow Wing!)...they are scared out of their minds and green as heck!
Then we go back to the 204th and find out that the Imperials have discovered Zin as a traitor. Ganem, her boyfriend, won't believe it, especially since she was the one telling him to be quiet when discussing traitorous things. Regardless, Broosh is angry as hell and blames Ganem for having bad judgement. With Zin's death though (having happened in the last issue) there's nothing that can be done either way for the pilot.
The ending backstory this time was about Ganem and an interaction he had with his grandmother. It was the most wholesome thing I think I've ever seen in a Star Wars comic! She's praising him for being a seventh generation pilot in their family and is so proud that he's flying for the Republic...Ganem quickly corrects her to "Empire" and she of course (in a very typical elderly person way--without a care in the world) goes off talking about the Emperor like he's just a regular person and there are not eyes and ears everywhere that can hear treasonous remarks. Ganem freaks out a little and it is adorable.
So a great read with some interesting plot developments. I'm definitely still enjoying this series!! And the continuity it brings in is splendid!
