Doctor Aphra comic #17: Remastered, Part IV by Kieron Gillen and Si Spurrier
"Doctor Aphra #17: Remastered, Part IV" written by Kieron Gillen and Si Spurrier, illustrated by Emilio Laiso and Rachelle Rosenberg
This was a great issue that flowed well and made perfect sense as the story progressed. I loved reading it and it definitely carried the story forward. We even get more Tolvan and Aphra interaction which I am eating up at this point!
Of course, the cover makes no sense as there is never an explosion and there are no stormtroopers in this issue. I just don't get it.
There's a Rebel Flight School in an old Trade Federation Lucrehulk--the big circular ships with the globe in the middle/droid control ships--super cool! Aphra and her crew found there way to it through Wat Tambor's files.
Hera meets Aphra! Apparently Hera's working as a rotation general, teaching and guiding the new recruits of the Flight School. And Aphra kidnaps her! Note Hera below with the big red bow on her head...too funny...set up as a gift to get Aphra's crew into HiveBase-1. Absolutely loving this canon connection!
Tolvan shows up! How did she get there? Not in a showy, the-Imperials-have-arrived sort of way, but in a sneaky, dastardly sorta way. I won't reveal specifics here because the surprise is a good one.
Referring to Tolvan and her shared kiss last issue, Aphra says, "You already kinda--fraternized a bit. And I am totally on board with repeat fraternization, fyi." Cute and funny.
Aphra tries so hard to get Tolvan to give up her mission for the Empire, and their continued "fraternizing" makes it difficult for Tolvan to resist, but she does resist and still wants to know who Aphra is, what she's doing, and why Vader deleted her records.
Turns out HiveBase-1 is the R&D hub of The Tarkin Initiative and is rumored to contain such a dense data core it has its own gravity!
And Aphra and her crew are on their way to that hub at the end of the issue, with Hera in tow. What will happen to Hera? What exactly does the plan of Aphra's crew entail? Will they get 000's memories back? I'm really looking forward to the next issue!
So all-in-all, some surprises, character developments, and a canon connection that were exciting and definitely enjoyable. This series just continues to impress, and I couldn't be happier that Doctor Aphra gets to tell her own individual story!
