Solo: A Star Wars Story #2 written by Robbie Thompson, illustrated by Will Sliney and Federico Blee
First off, the artwork in this issue was phenomenal!! Definitely a feast for the eyes, especially the train heist scene...so good!!
As for any extras whether dialogue or scenes...there weren't any. So I don't have all that much to say about this one. I will say that it covers all the way from the fight between Han and Chewie on Mimban through the train heist to Han running into Qi'ra on Dryden's yacht so it actually covers quite a bit.
The story is told well although it's pretty much a straight retelling rather than an adaptation. Oh well, the first issue knocked it out of the park so my expectations were up by several notches--should have expected them to get knocked down a few pegs. Hopefully the next issue will live up to the awesomeness of the first with some extra goodies...guess we'll see.
One interesting little tidbit that I noticed was Rio has earrings! While a neat addition to his character's appearance, I'm grasping at things that are new and different from what I noticed in the movie already.
And one weird choice, they don't show the blistering, burning hole in Rio's arm after he gets shot. The angles of the images just avoid it being shown at all. Strange, that was such a brutal and realistic part of the movie...
So...visuals...I'll leave you with two of my favorite panels below!!!
So much majesty and scale in this image! It 100% draws me into the action taking place.
This is Beckett after hearing Val sacrifice herself. The explosion reflected in his eyes is powerful and heartbreaking! And his hands are reaching out as if to stop it all from happening. *chills*
