Allegiance, Part II: "Troubled Waters" by Ethan Sacks

Allegiance, Part II: "Troubled Waters" written by Ethan Sacks, illustrated by Luke Ross and Lee Loughridge
I am really enjoying this series so far! And I'm loving the continued connections to other canon. We have the Quarren General Nossor Ri who was once head of the Quarren Isolation League which sided with Riff Tamson and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, causing the Battle of Mon Cala during the Clone Wars. Then we have Aftab, son of Admiral Ackbar who didn't know his father very well in person but did study his every victory in battle. And finally, we have King Ech-Char, descendant of King Lee-Char from the Clone Wars.
Leia, Rose, Rey, Chewie, and 3PO arrive on Mon Cala to the chagrin of its inhabitants. The vast majority of Quarren and Mon Calamari, including the King, want nothing to do with the Resistance because they still remember how bad things got during the Empire's reign, how Imperial ire rained down on them because of the planet's backing the Rebellion. Leia tries to make them see how dangerous the First Order is, but it appears that effort will be to no avail...and then the absolute worst thing happens!!! You'll have to read to find out what.
An interesting short side story involves the planet Fondor and the First Order. Resistance ships came through and were refused aid by the Fondor people. But the First Order sees this as simple treasonous contact with rebels and lash out with the full-might of an angry Kylo Ren. So now we've seen two planets beaten down by the FO that were ignored in Imperial days. Kylo says that that was a problem with the Empire he seeks not to repeat. Poor neutral planets!! See an incredible image of Fondor surrounded by FO ships below. Notice it has what appears to be a shield gate similar to that above Scarif in Rogue One. Very interesting...
While Leia is visiting with the Mon Cala people, she goes under water several times in a diving suit (see image below) and the overall look is so incredibly reminiscent of Padme during the Battle of Mon Cala!! I absolutely love the mother daughter resemblance. *heart*
There's one last image I want to share and that's one of the Mon Cala King Ech-Char. He appears to be hooked up to medical assistive devices, again, reminiscent of something we've seen before--King Lee-Char several arcs back in the "Star Wars" mainline comic series...except Lee-Char was in an Imperial detention center. I wonder if Ech-Char is just really sick. So odd, I want to know more!
The Finn and Poe story with Kendoh and her crew feels tacked on and not entirely necessary. Don't get me wrong, I love that we're getting to see what went wrong for the bounty hunters on Avedot, but in regards to the flow of the overall story in this series, it just feels disjointed. I'm definitely more interested in the Mon Cala story.
I'll end with a great phrase used by the Quarren to describe Chewie. He says, "Unhand me dry breather!" Hahaha...dry breather. I love it.
While it is super cool to see the Mon Calamari and Quarren working together, it's super unfortunate that they're working together for the wrong side. Maybe by the end of this series they'll see the error in their ways and turn back to help the good guys. Only time will tell...
