Resistance Season 2: Episode 3: Live Fire

Resistance Season 2: Episode 3: Live Fire, written by Mairghread Scott, directed by Steward Lee
What a feel good episode!! ...at least in regards to the people of the Colossus. Tam's not doing so hot in her new digs. But overall, this episode warmed my heart and was definitely a winner. In fact, I can see this being an episode I might actually want to watch a couple more times!
We start with the Aces in their lounge distraught about their close battle with the First Order in last week's episode. They're facing a new kind of enemy now (the First Order is definitely different from pirates) and while Hype proclaims that the First Order can't chase them forever, Griff Halloran counters with the insider knowledge that they will do just that...until they're all in detention cells. Then Captain Doza enters with the new Ace commander and a new Ace pilot!!! Yeager and Kaz, respectively!! I am so excited about this new development. Poor Kaz is being dogged on severely by Hype...the Rodian even calls him a Kaz-tastrophe. Awww. But remember, I said this episode was heart-warming?? Yeah, just wait!
Freya and Griff have a great exchange during a combat exercise: Freya, "I didn't know Imperial pilots were so concerned about one another." Griff, "Yeah, we weren't, that's why we lost." What incredible insight by the former Imperial pilot! I love that they have such an Ace who isn't suckered into the First Order's Imperial tendencies but instead sees the error in his previous ways.
The First Order has X-wing drones that its cadets go after in live fire exercises!! They're really trying to hone their pilots in on the Resistance! I don't recall the Empire using such specific tactics. Very interesting.
Funny note: Even in his astromech socket, Bucket is wearing a Rebel pilot's helmet! Hahaha...I love him.
Of course this episode couldn't be all hunky dory... On the uninhabited ice planet that the Aces combat drill in the atmo of (see above), the crew runs into...well...this:
Look at those super gnarly teeth!! Yuck! (Even Hype comments on how nasty they are.) And Hype's reaction is fantastic!! I mean, the guy is completely terrified and for somebody who always boasts about how awesome he is, this is a wonderful character development. I absolutely laughed out loud, in fact, this episode had several really funny moments.
The last thing I want to mention is a quote from Lieutenant Galek of the First Order, the person seemingly in charge of Tam's new cadet group. "Our Order is built on survival of the fittest." She proclaims this after Tam unfortunately plays the hero. You can tell that the girl is struggling with this eat or be eaten mentality. I really don't see her staying in the First Order for long...
So a wonderful episode with great new developments. I honestly cannot wait to see what comes next!
