Hmmm...not much happened in this issue but it was still exciting. We have Han doing his best to lend a hand in the fight, Luke commanding Rogue Squadron, and Leia pretending to be Queen Trios to get onboard the Executor so she can find the override codes and finally free her capital ships. Okay, I guess a lot is going on but it just felt so streamlined and easy to read that I didn't find much meat in the issue. Regardless, it was of course enjoyable.
We ended the last issue with Han using 3PO to get the message to the Rebel troops that the capital ships' doors would open if starfighters flew at them. Luke soldiered forward and brought a cadre of X-wings with him doing just that. In the process, he named his following Rogue Squadron *heart*!
Han makes reference to the Kessel Run, saying he doesn't think the Millennium Falcon has been so beat up since! And she does look beat up as hell! Poor ship. So cool that we now have a solid connection with the Kessel Run and actually know how difficult a journey that was.
I love that Han is in this fight to win it! After the Millennium Falcon crashes in the hangar bay of one of the Rebel capital ships, he says, "Get me anything with wings. I gotta get back out there." I love it! He's really feeling like a true Rebel--in the fight all the way. And perhaps this is why the cover shows him in a flight suit, mounting an X-wing. If anything, it's metaphorical for where his head is at. I'm wondering how this will change before Empire Strikes Back comes around since in that movie he's ready to get away from the Rebellion. Huh...now I'm curious how many more issues they'll do before they lead us right up to Hoth...
Apparently the Rebels have a specific anti-Vader drill that they practice. Interesting...and necessary for sure if Rogue One was any indication!
So that's really all I have to say about that. This issue was mostly aerial dogfights with the Rebels seeming to lose and gain ground at the same time--quite an intriguing dynamic they build up for themselves. In the next issue we'll get to see how Leia fares on the Executor...Will Vader find her? Will she get the override codes? What will happen to the Rebel fleet? Can't wait to find out...tomorrow!!
