Meet the Heroes: R2-D2 by Emma Grange AND Chewbacca by Ruth Amos
Similar to Meet the Villains: Darth Vader, these books asked tons of questions and answered them in kid-friendly, exciting ways. I recently received Meet the Villains: Stormtroopers in the mail and am definitely excited to dig into that one, too. In a nod to this being the set of books on "heroes," there's quite a bit of focus on the characters' friends, something that I've seen a lot of in recent Star Wars children's books which is great and teaches the lesson that sometimes you need help to succeed. So these books do go a bit beneath the surface but mostly cover what we already know.
There's not really all that much to say, but I'll break down a couple of things below.
Meet the Heroes: R2-D2 by Emma Grange
This book contained 54 questions covering everything from the binary language to R2-D2's being a guest at a wedding. Probably the cutest of them all, this book asked questions like, "When was R2-D2 scared?" to which the response was, "When his friend Luke went missing on the snowy planet Hoth..."
It's a quick, fun read that reminds you of all the wonderful things R2-D2 has done as the loyal droid that he is. Nothing super unique or special jumped out at me but it was definitely still enjoyable.
Meet the Heroes: Chewbacca by Ruth Amos
This book contained 58 questions covering everything from the Millennium Falcon to not letting a Wookiee lose at holochess. We learn an interesting fact about Wookiees' longevity and get an awesome close up of Chewie's feet (see below)! Apparently the species can live up to 400 years!!
Again, this was a fun, quick read that reminds us of all of Chewie's heroic deeds. Besides what was mentioned above, there's nothing surprising or brand new, but again, this was definitely an enjoyable book.
So, two great books, especially for the younger crowd to get them interested in all the wonderful acts of kindness and heroics that two of our favorite heroes have carried out! I really am enjoying this series quite a bit. The reminders are great and the photos, all from the movies, are well chosen for reminiscing over your favorite scenes. These are winners for me!
