We are the Resistance: a Little Golden Book by Elizabeth Schaefer
We are the Resistance: a Little Golden Book written by Elizabeth Schaefer, illustrated by Alan Batson
This little book is wonderful!! It gives us glimpses into moments from The Rise of Skywalker in about half of the book...which is something I definitely didn't expect despite it being an entry into the "Journey to TROS" publishing campaign. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful with that sweet "Golden Book" style and the writing isn't half bad either!
One of my favorite lines is the following: "Sometimes the Resistance must fight with weapons...but they also fight with their words and actions. They show others how to stand up for what is right." Along with this sentiment, we get an image of Poe and Finn during Poe's rescue/Finn's escape, an image of Rey walking with BB-8 on Jakku, and a whole two-page spread of Rose freeing the fathiers! There are a number of very choice images showing all the good that the Resistance has done that we know of so far.
And then, not even half way through the book we start in on TROS!! "BB-8 made a new friend named D-O"--accompanied by an adorable picture of the two of them looking at each other. We get the image of Rey with her lightsaber about to somersault over the TIE fighter from the first teaser (see image below--ohhh and the image makes it very clear that YES it is Kylo coming after her because that is definitely his TIE whisper)!! We get the Pasaana speeder chase complete with Jet Trooper, an epic looking space battle complete with Resistance X-wings, A-wings, and Y-wings, and Kylo's TIE whisper, and a Sith Trooper TIE (see below), and a glimpse of Lando piloting the Millennium Falcon, Zorii, and Jannah, PLUS a full spread of the Knights of Ren (see below)!! While obviously pretty much zero information is given away, just seeing these images and getting a closer look at the various new players in the story was fascinating and quite welcome.
If you want to get your tiny Padawan pumped up for The Rise of the Skywalker, this is definitely a sure fire way to do so!!! Or...you know...if you just love super cute artwork and you wanna get pumped up for the movie...I mean, I loved it.

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!!! Over a year later, I am just now seeing this comment and am over the moon delighted that you wrote to me!! Sincere apologies for missing it. I really do adore the artwork in these books. It is so engaging and vivid and so incredibly much fun. Even though I'm an adult I have a blast reading these little Star Wars nuggets. Thanks again!! And I hope to see more of your work in the future!!
