Jedi Fallen Order: Dark Temple #5: "The Collapse of All Things" by Matthew Rosenberg

Wow!! What an ending. I honestly teared up with how things turned out for Cere, she really was acting noble and kind, working toward everybody's interests in the situation. She absolutely deserved the accolade she received. *heart* And the present timeline connects directly to the Jedi Fallen Order video game!! It ends with the Inquisitor saying they are headed to Bogano next and, "Cere Junda and Cal Kestis cannot hide from me forever." I'm actually really happy now that I haven't started playing the game yet. I love that I now know some backstory to the tale before even beginning!! I'm curious to see how good a job this series did with just that... Either way though, this was an excellent entry into Star Wars canon and is absolutely worth the read.
We begin in the past with the battle still raging between Daa's entire army and the small band of fighting Fylari. Cere takes it upon herself to fight her way into the command center and makes a deal with Daa that if he stops the fighting now, she'll do everything she can to get him access to the temple (under the assumption that all he seeks is knowledge) and perhaps even get him into the Jedi Archives... But it turns out that Cere's deal wasn't really necessary as the Ontothon Planetary Government has voted to make Fylar no longer a nation and by default a part of the Republic. So Daa has every right (legally at least) to enter the temple after all. Regardless, Neralli, the Fylari leader, relentlessly attacks anew with some ancient energetic weaponry
(see below) from deep within the temple that ends up being the crux of it all.
AND it turns out that Fylari people were behind the attack on the Daa caravan although perhaps not the Fylari government itself. Something about age-old disputes the "locals" were anxious to settle... Well, the Republic arrives...with 4 Jedi in tow (see to the right) --Mace Windu, Luminara Unduli, a Sullustan named Maslo-Skaff, and an Ithorian named Odu. Mace, Luminara, and Maslo-Skaff hustle the Daa people back to safety while Odu and Cere return to the temple to save Cordova. Is he even still alive after the blast of energy he received at the end of last issue?? Then Neralli turns to attack the Republic once Daa's people have fled and things are not looking good one bit...
I'm super excited to see if we learn more about the ancient energetic weaponry in the game because that stuff was intense and scary! This whole series did a bang up job of introducing us to new characters, new planets/species, new lore, and a brilliant new story. I am super impressed with how everything ended as well! Usually these things start out great and then peter out in the end, but this series did not disappoint.
