The Mandalorian: Season 1: Chapter 7: "The Reckoning"
The Mandalorian: Chapter 7: "The Reckoning" written by Jon Favreau, directed by Deborah Chow
What a fantastic episode!! We get back all of our old favorites from the previous episodes--IG-11, Cara Dune, Greef Karga, and...the Regal Pig Man himself, Kuiil!!--and several different plot lines come racing together into what feels like an epic finale. Of course, we know there's one episode left in this season, so we luckily won't have to wait forever to see what's going to happen post-major cliffhanger.
We start off with a transmission from Greef Karga about setting up a "trap" of sorts for The Client. The Mando takes the bait and enlists Cara Dune as help for the mission. Along the way, he also enlists Kuiil as a babysitter for The Child...unfortunately, tension arises when it is revealed that Kuiil saved IG-11 and has repurposed him to be a hand on his homestead. He has been reprogrammed to be subservient and docile and likes to serve tea, haha! Regardless, Mando doesn't trust this at all but mostly gives in as the plot moves forward.
Then we meet up with Greef Karga and set out to enact the trap, but all does not go as planned...
Trivia:
-Ugnaughts live at least 3 times longer than humans.
-Rebel Shocktroopers have an identifying banded tattoo around their upper arm (see image below).
There were several choice quotes in this episode that stood out even more so because of the characters behind each one.
-"They are neutral reflections of those who imprint them." - Kuiil about droids, trying to convince Mando to accept IG-11's reprogramming. He makes a really good point, but Mando whole-heartedly disagrees, probably thinking back to his scarred childhood.
-"He's trying to eat me" - Greef Karga after being attacked by a creepy, giant flying creature (looks like a small dragon--this guy was super hard to photograph because it was moving so quickly! Still, see image below) and being gravely injured. The Child walks up to him and places his hand on the injury...Greef isn't convinced the baby is trying to help. This line was super funny because it connected to an earlier observation Greef made that The Child must be a carnivore.
-"It is amazing how beautiful beskar can be when forged by its ancestral artisans." - The Client when Mando shows up at his doorstep, while running his hands greedily/with awe along the armor. I feel like The Client has a thing for Mandalorian culture which strikes me as super odd. I wonder if he has any history with the group??
I'll leave you with this comment on the lovely image at the beginning of this review: death troopers and stormtroopers swoop in to wreck the day...
Can't wait to see how this all wraps up to end the first season!!
