Poe Dameron comic #28: The Awakening, Part III by Charles Soule

"Poe Dameron #28: The Awakening, Part III" written by Charles Soule, illustrated by Angel Unzueta and Arif Prianto
This issue knocked my socks off what with all the new post-Last Jedi info...I am seriously pumped up about where this series is going to go from here and what we are going to learn next!! This is just too good...
So we start the issue with two different colored text boxes discussing the Battle of Starkiller Base. You don't know who's talking until the 8th page as we just get dialogue in an orange box from someone who was at the Battle of Starkiller Base and dialogue in a blue box from someone who was at the Death Star battles. The surprise is so cute!!!!...and unexpected--I'm loving it!
Only 12 X-wings flew into the Battle of Starkiller Base. Didn't realize it was so few...
It's mentioned that all the bombers were off on another mission during this time! Check out my review of Cobalt Squadron for more on that excursion--love the continuity.
We learn that the first pilot to die at Starkiller Base was named Furillo and his astromech was V8-R (sounds suspiciously like Vader to me...weird). Along with him we have Red One (unnamed), Ello Asty with XA-LX (Red Six), Pallaris Ven with BR-BA (Blue Four), and Sara Bel-Sun with P4-99 (Red Two) who all perish during the battle. Then there's a panel of Jess Pava in an exploding X-wing but the person speaking says 12 went and 7 came back so she must've not actually been killed--I can't remember if she was seen on screen in Last Jedi or not...keep reading for more on that...it's exciting!
We get a quick glimpse of Rey and 3PO translating ancient Jedi texts which was cool to see. I wonder what all Rey is learning...
And then we're led right up to the events of Last Jedi!! Poe presents his crazy idea to go solo after the First Order's capital ships while everyone else escapes D'Qar. And General Leia gives Black Squadron a mission to find more allies for the Resistance!! I don't know how it escaped my notice, but Black Squadron is not in Last Jedi because they were off doing another mission! There is hope for the Resistance after all!...except at the end of this issue, 3PO gets a transmission from the squad and says it's not exactly good news...
I'm too hyped for words over the ending issues of this series! All the exclamation points!! I can't believe they're delving into post-Last Jedi events and are giving us speculative fodder to mull over for the next year and a half. So stoked! Can't wait to see what the transmission 3PO received contains...
