Galaxy's Edge comic #5: "A Double-Edged Sword" by Ethan Sacks

"Galaxy's Edge #5: A Double-Edged Sword" written by Ethan Sacks, illustrated by Will Sliney and Dono Sanchez-Almara with Protobunker
This was quite a good end to a truly fabulous short-run series. I have to say that the other four issues were better than this finale. But they were all super hard to beat! I still got a rollicking ride through the adventures of Dok-Ondar and Kendoh's crew as they faced off against the First Order's Red Fury contingent of stormtroopers.
The issue's title of "A Double-Edged Sword" could refer to the Sword of Khashyun itself or could even refer to the double-crossing taking place between...well, you'll have to read to find out!
We start off with stormtroopers facing down Dok-Ondar, his IG-series assassin droid BK-86, his assistant, Kendoh, and Wooro. The lead trooper is desperate to know what in the world is going on and what Kendoh could possibly want from Dok. He refers to Kendoh as the Scourge of Serenno, The Thief of Tandhor-Six, and The Mastermind Behind the Bothan Museum Heist. Apparently her crew is quite well known as criminal masterminds. She even knows Ithorian and speaks to Dok in the language to avoid the troopers knowing what is actually going on. The troopers, arrogant as ever, speak about the peace, order, and divine right of the First Order all while the comic's art shows us various locations around Black Spire Outpost (readying the reader for what they will find in real life). I found this aspect of the issue to be super intriguing. See Savi's Workshop below!
Dok continues the story with Aphra that was begun last issue and it turns out that he had to separate the two parts of the Sword of Khashyun because Aphra had stuck it in one of his enforcers. So the blade of the sword had been left with her until she sold it to the highest bidder (of course) who Kendoh's crew then stole it from.
As would be expected, Kendoh and Wooro make short work of the troopers, being very resourceful and using the stories they have already been told to brandish objects that will save them. It's all super cool how the stories end up coming back into play through these objects! In the end, Kendoh, Wooro, and Remex make off with the hilt of the Sword of Khashyun...or do they??? I certainly am not going to give away how this one ends because it is fantastic!! Surprises abound in several different ways and the unveiling is a joy.
Anything with Aphra in it, no matter how brief, is a wonderful thing. And this issue brought everything around into an ending that was not all that different from the types of endings we usually get in the "Dr. Aphra" long-run comic series. In that, it was truly magical. In the bottom right hand corner at the very end, it says, "The End...?" so one can only hope that we're not done with Dok-Ondar, Kendoh, Remex, or Wooro!! Fingers crossed on this one for sure.
