The Clone Wars: Season 7: Episode 3: "On the Wings of Keeradaks"
This episode was still wonderful but did have quite a few unnecessary and unfortunate changes. For one, the "decimator" has absolutely ZERO explanation when in the animatics we were able to witness exactly the horrors that it can enact. Secondly, Wat Tambor's diabolical speech about neutrality was cut and replaced with, well, not really anything at all. I personally feel like this was a big loss, and honestly, I'm not all that sure what they replaced these two moments with...
First change was the opening parable: "Survival is one step on the path to living." sure this is a decent parable, but "In war there is no such thing as neutrality." is a much better one! And fully encapsulates Tambor's proclamations that neutrality allows him to do whatever the heck he wants. I really do think the lack of diabolical villainy makes Tambor not near as sinister as he could be.
Second change was the removal of the Poletec (Skako Minor native) being decimated by...the Organic Decimator. To be fair, this scene was gruesome and disturbing so I get removing it from the final episode, but as written in the final episode, there's no explanation for what the decimator does as they don't even call it an "Organic" decimator anymore. You just have to kind of guess at what it's capable of. See it shooting out "hunting" sparks above. But then...they do show a super emaciated and bodily-modified Echo (see below) and that is just as freaky if not more! than the organic decimator's work on the Poletec was.
On a positive note, I still LOVE Wrecker!!! The Bad Batch, Rex, Echo, and Ani find themselves stuck on a highwire running between buildings with droids on either side of them, attacking with laser fire!! Poor Wrecker can't stand the idea of such a precarious situation and then looks down...uh-oh. He's so cute!
Also, the battle droids have beautiful wings!!! They can fly as they are D-wing Air Support Droids. Something our clones didn't see coming! Check out the first image above.
A large chunk of the episode involves the clones and the Poletecs attacking the droid forces. (The clones escaped Tambor's clutches with Echo in tow. And fly away from the city on Keeradaks--the reptiles the Poletec worship--only to land among the natives once again. A people who are not happy about the war being brought to them.) The sequence is a fabulous battle scene but if this is what they made longer to do away with the parts mentioned above, I think it was an unfortunate choice.
So even though I preferred the animatics, this was still a great episode and I can't wait to see how everything wraps up. Will we get more deviations from the original vision?? Guess, we'll see in just five short days!
