The Clone Wars: Season 7: Episode 5: "Gone With a Trace"

The Clone Wars: Season 7: Episode 5: "Gone With a Trace" written by Dave Filoni and Charles Murray, directed by Saul Ruiz and Kyle Dunlevy
I certainly enjoyed this episode...but somehow I wanted more. More about Ahsoka's struggle with denying the Jedi Order. More about Anakin's struggle with letting his Padawan go. More worldbuilding around Level 1313. Just...more. Regardless, it was seemingly a great intro episode for what's to come, introducing us to new characters that I'm sure we're going to fall in love with...at least in the case of Trace. There was tons of action, some great banter, and the re-appearance of an unnamed species from "Rebels" in the form of Pintu, an alien who is owed money by Trace's sister Rafa. All good things, so I'll settle on contentment right now.
We aren't provided with any sort of timeline for how long Ahsoka's been away from the Jedi order--could be a day, could be months--but we start the episode, seeing her zooming along on a speeder bike in what looks like a mechanic's get up (the suit is actually really cute! see Ahsoka above along with Trace). Then, the speeder bike breaks down and crashes on Level 1313 where she meets Trace who wants money in return for literally ANY service or parts she can provide. Ahsoka, obviously in mental and emotional turmoil, eventually changes Trace's mind to veer toward friendship and that's where I think we're heading for the rest of this arc (which looks to include 2 more episodes).
We also meet Rafa, Trace's older sister, who likes to get in troubling situations, thinking she has the upper hand when she doesn't. For instance, she makes a deal to work on 3 binary load lifter droids that end up being super violent and wreaking havoc across the sector. Luckily, Ahsoka has encountered these guys before in the "Forces of Destiny" episode "The Padawan Path" so she knows what she's up against--"Type II Load Lifters were a fraud. They were repurposed demolition droids prone to violence," she says in this week's episode. It was actually pretty funny watching the droids just causing destruction for the sake of destroying things (see one pictured above).
The intro parable for this episode was, "If there is no path before you, create your own." And Ahsoka definitely appears to be doing so in this episode...figuring out where she belongs and what she's meant to be doing with her life. I can't wait to discover her path to where we know she's going to end up!
In regards to the new guys, Trace turns out to be kind, caring, and a skilled mechanic--a really great character. Rafa turns out to be focused on survival, self-serving, and bull-headed--a really great potential bad guy (not to the level of villain, but still bad). In other words, there's set up here for some wonderfully engaging conflict in the next two episodes! I look forward with great anticipation toward what that might be...
