Star Wars comic #41: The Ashes of Jedha, Part IV by Kieron Gillen

"Star Wars #41: The Ashes of Jedha, Part IV" written by Kieron Gillen, illustrated by Salvador Larroca, Guru-eFX, and VC's Clayton Cowles
This issue was super weird. I'm not completely sure what all was going on. But I'm definitely intrigued to see what happens in the next issue as it ended with quite a cliff hanger.
Luke makes it to the abyss where the temple used to stand and confronts several members of the Cult of the Central Isopter who it seems worship death. Chulco, the pilgrim who traveled with him, is overtaken by the call of the abyss and tries to murder Luke. Luke makes sure that doesn't happen. I'm still confused as to what Luke has learned from this side trip to the abyss but it appears it may partly be a lesson on the dangers of the Dark Side. This whole side mission really has me thrown for a loop. It gets intensely philosophical and psychological in a truly twisted way.
The main mission with the Rebels/Partisans up against the Continent-class Shu-Torun mining machine is going disastrously. Nothing makes a dent in the machine's armor. And there seems to be no way to defeat it until Chewie returns from Jedha's orbit with something that Leia says could be the answer. But what is it?! We'll have to wait and find out.
Trivia: Luke admits to understanding a bit of Shyriiwook but only about every fourth word. Interesting.
So, I don't know about this one, I'm hoping the next issue is less bizarre and makes some more sense. The illustrations were also a bit confusing in places with all the reds and dark colors that made images blur together. Here's to looking forward to what comes next...
