"TK-146275" is one hardcore short story. It can be found in Star Wars Insider #166 released in July of 2016. This is another great example of seeing the Empire through the eyes of Imperials...at least the majority of the story. You get to see why one trooper joins the Imperial army and just how awful the Rebels can sometimes be. It's definitely a great reminder that there are at least two sides to every story.
This tale takes place on Eriadu (Tarkin's home planet) and then Lothal. Trooper TK-146275 is an Eriadu native enamored with how peace and order have come to his planet thanks to Grand Moff Tarkin. He used to not be able to go into town due to lawlessness, but once the Empire came, he could venture away from his home without fear something bad would happen to him. Makes you wonder how many other people in the Star Wars universe this was true for. But then he gets a taste of the other side of the coin once he arrives on Lothal.
Metaphors and parables are used in several places in this piece which was a neat little look into deeper Star Wars lore - especially in regards to nerf-herding ;-)
The ending holds quite a twist - hinted at in the very beginning, but surprising nonetheless. The whole story is framed with quite a powerful symmetry.
A short and engaging read, "TK-146275" is definitely worth a look see. But like I said, it is hardcore and not for the faint of heart. TK-146275 goes through some pretty rough stuff as a child, a cadet, and then later as a trooper. His life is not enviable. Check it out if you're up for some hard-hitting Star Wars reality.
