Creatures, Ships & Droids Poster-A-Page written by Cynthia Wang

Creatures, Ships & Droids Poster-A-Page written by Cynthia Wang
Somehow I missed the release of other similar titles into canon. After reading this one, I'm definitely wanting to check the others out! When looking into it on Amazon, I found the following: The Skywalker Saga, Heroes and Villains, and Rogue Heroes and Heroes of the Rebellion (both focusing on "Rebels"). It also appears that these books were released in newsstands for limited amounts of time, so I'm lucky I was able to acquire my copy.
Layout wise, every page is a poster (hence the title) and on the back of each poster-page is either a trivia question, a descriptive paragraph, or a numbered breakdown covering the subject of the poster. This particular book obviously covers creatures, ships, and droids. And it stays within the prequel and original trilogies only.
By creatures, it refers to any non-human character in the saga as well as groups of aliens. So some posters were about specific "people" while others were about alien races in general. Somehow the randomness worked.
There's no rhyme or reason to the order the creatures, ships, and droids are given in - it all seems very haphazard. But this almost added an air of fun to the book because you never knew who or what was coming next.
In addition to the page-posters, there are 7 posters the size of 4 pages put together including one coloring poster of C-3P0, R2-D2, Yoda, and TIE-Interceptors - an interesting combo.
One thing I would have to disagree with this book on was the labeling of both General Grievous and Lobot as droids. Although it does mention they used to be fully organic, it still straight up calls them droids. I would instead go with cyborg.
On to the fun trivia this book provided:
  • Male Gammoreans are called boars and females are called sows - just like pigs!
  • IG-88 is equipped with blasters, poisons, blades, gas, and cannons.
  • Rancors hail from Dathomir (I'm pretty sure I already knew this, but it's still interesting).
  • Slave I is a Firespray-31 class law enforcement ship.
  • FX-model droids are the slim, barrel-shaped droid assistants of 2-1B surgeon droids.
  • Wampa are more than 9 feet tall.
  • Pit droids are DUM-series droids!! Hahahaha - so fitting.
  • The slender, pointy back end of Naboo N-1 Starfighters is called a "rat-tail" and is able to plug into generators for recharging.
  • Darth Maul's probe droids are DRK-1 droids, also known as "Dark Eye"s.
  • Jawas have night vision thanks to their glowing eyes.
  • Wicket eventually becomes chief of Bright Tree Village!
  • Droidekas were created by and designed in likeness to Colicoids, an insect-like species.
One thing that really got me excited was the Lobot page referencing the Lando Calrissian short-run comic series when referring to how he became the way he is. Hooray for canon connections!
Overall this book provided a lot of great information in a super fun format. And the posters were cute with many sporting funny quotes or slogans. Definitely a great find for any one who wants some cheesy Star Wars flair for their walls. Now I've gotta check out the others in this series of books!
