Star Wars comic #38: The Ashes of Jedha, Part I by Kieron Gillen

"Star Wars #38: The Ashes of Jedha, Part I" written by Kieron Gillen, illustrated by Salvador Larroca, Guru-eFX, and VC's Clayton Cowles
Luke and Leia go to Jedha to find Saw Gerrera's Partisans. They find a few, rescue them from Imperials, and head to NaJedha, the moon's planet. The image of Jedha from NaJedha is horrifying. See below.
Ubin Des is an old Alliance member who would have been in the Battle of Scarif if she hadn't been in the sick bay. She returns home to Jedha to join the Partisans and help them out with her specforces training. LOVE that they reference Scarif!! Leia tells her she wishes the Partisans could join the Alliance so they could actually function like a single unit and make a bigger difference.
Imperial Commander Kanchar is a brute of a man with a large mechanical arm. He takes over command of the Imperial mission to continue plundering Jedha for kyber crystals. He mentions Tarkin in saying he carries on the Moff's legacy.
Queen Trios of Shu-Torun is back!!! She's offered to help the Imperials with their mission. She likens the decaying planet to her home--what with Jedha's ruptured mantle, magma seas, and venting poisonous vapors.
Luke, Leia, and Han have sacks thrust over their heads just like Bodhi when they return to Jedha and are taken to the Partisan's stronghold. Luke and Leia's interchange as they are brought before the Partisans is fabulous.
After we get a glimpse of Two Tubes (he's back!), the issue ends and I was left desperately wanting more.
Having watched Rogue One last night for the bajillionth time, I was ripe and ready to read this issue and absolutely LOVED it. Jedha, Scarif, kyber crystals, Tarkin, plus Queen Trios! So many canon connections which always makes my heart happy. I cannot wait for the next issue!
