TIE Fighter comic #2: The Shadow Falls, Part II by Jody Houser

"TIE Fighter #2: The Shadow Falls, Part II" written by Jody Houser, illustrated by Roge Antonio, Josh Cassara, Arif Prianto, Neeraj Menon
A seemingly short issue, light on action, I still enjoyed how this addition moved the plot forward and kept us wondering and guessing as it did so. It didn't seem like much happened and it read super quickly, but I guess we really did receive a ton of information behind the mystery of the missing Star Destroyer.
We left off last issue with Shadow Wing flying into a swarm of unfriendly TIEs coming from what was thought to be a lost Star Destroyer (the Celerity) commanded by Admiral Gratloe in the Kudo system. Well, it turns out Gratloe wants nothing more to do with giving of his life in service to the Empire. He feels the whole lifestyle is far too much risk for far too little payoff. His troops apparently agree because, still in their stormtrooper uniforms, they defend his every move. Not sure how Gratloe expects to live out his life undiscovered by the Empire much less running a mining colony under their noses. He seems pretty darn delusional to me. Regardless, I am most definitely intrigued by Gratloe's plans and what they may mean for Shadow Wing.
So I've figured out the formatting with the story after the story. The main plot line--the one that ends with "to be continued...in TIE Fighter #x"--is the story involving all 5 of Shadow Wing's members while the after plot line that follows the "to be continued" is about each pilot individually, several days before the situation in the main plot line. I say this because we had a story about Zin Graw at the end of the first issue and a story about Lyttan Dree at the end of this issue so I can only surmise that next issue's will be about a different one of the pilots. We know there are 5 issues total so this makes perfect sense. Definitely intrigued by how they laid all this out!!
In Lyttan's story after the story, he has a conversation through holo with his brother Tamu and they briefly mention Tamu's wedding which is covered in "Han Solo: Imperial Cadet #3"--remember when he got super drunk and randomly married a Theelin woman in a casino chapel? Apparently they're still married and now have kids!! That's pretty impressive. Check out the above link to see an image of her.
I wanted to share one image from this issue that I thought was super cool. We see all Shadow Wing's expressions beneath their helmets after their commander Teso Broosh decides to surrender to Gratloe and his men. Super cool imagery with the helmets faded to become transparent (see below).
The synopsis for next week's issue says the Rebel traitor will be revealed! And from last week's story after the story we can assume that Zin is that Rebel traitor... Can't wait to see how this plays out!!...especially while Shadow Wing is in the grip of captivity by a non-Imperial Imperial...
