Age of Rebellion: Princess Leia: "Princess Scoundrel" by Greg Pak
Age of Rebellion: Princess Leia: "Princess Scoundrel" written by Greg Pak, illustrated by Chris Sprouse, Karl Story, Will Sliney, Marc Deering, and Tamra Bonvillain
Wow! These Age of Rebellion comics are sweeping me off my feet so far!! I'm definitely a prequel girl, but I have to say, this series is blowing the Age of Republic series out of the water for me. The stories just seem fuller and more fleshed out. And the call backs to other material are so connectively wonderful. I can't wait to read the upcoming stories of some of our favorite Galactic Civil War heroes and villains!
I LOVE the title! "Princess Scoundrel"--it works perfectly for how the story plays out and ties in directly to something Lando says to Leia at the very end of the issue.
This issue takes place after Empire Strikes Back and Moving Target and before Return of the Jedi. Leia is headed to Tatooine to rescue Han with her Boushh outfit in tow when she receives a call saying that Lando is in trouble on Arkanis and himself needs rescuing. Bossk makes an appearance as the head of a gang of bounty hunters after the Rebels. He captures Chewie, and Leia, pretending to be Boushh, makes sure that it isn't permanent. Check out the awesome image below of Bossk surprise attacking "Boushh" and Lando!!
Easter Eggs:
- Evaan Verlaine (the woman who piloted Leia in her mission to recruit Alderaanians to the Rebel cause in the Leia short-run comic series) speaks to Leia through the com about the new coordinates.
- A Rebel ship was shot down by bounty hunters at Arkanis (the location of the Imperial Academy that Brendol Hux was head of).
- In a ploy to lure Bossk in to giving Chewie back to Leia (dressed as Boushh) Lando tells the "bounty hunter" that if he takes him to Canto Bight he can make him a fortune.
Trivia:
- Apparently Boushh attacked Leia and Chewie on Ord Mantell and that's how she ended up with the outfit!
- Leia knows Ubesian, Boushh's language,--which I guess is obvious in Return of the Jedi, but still pretty cool to know. She can seemingly easily move from Ubesian to Basic which is pretty impressive.
So with a fully fleshed out story, this one was truly an enjoyable read! And the connections to other material were fantastic! There was plenty of Leia being a bada** and Lando saying, "It's not my fault!" which was hysterical. The essay at the end was poignant, covering both Leia the character and Carrie Fisher the actress. I loved the couple of mentions of Leia inheriting her bada**ery from her mama Padme, too! Both the Tarkin issue and this Leia issue are must haves! So excited for what's coming next!
