Beckett comic by Gerry Dugan

"Beckett" written by Gerry Dugan, illustrated by Jordan Boyd and various (see below)

Well that was a fun, quick read. We don't get any real backstory on Beckett but we do get a little adventure of his and his crew. Honestly, I'd love to get a story on how Beckett got involved in the criminal underworld. This story just serves as another jaunt during his time with Crimson Dawn. Regardless, I enjoyed it quite a lot. It's separated into three chapters although it is not that long overall.

Chapter One: The Man in Black, illustrated by Edgar Salazar
Val, Rio, and Beckett are on Hovun IV ready to rob a man named Dvorad of all his blank ID chips. (I wish we would start seeing more re-hashing of already named planets so that we could delve more deeply into what's already out there rather than spreading the galaxy so thin that it gets difficult to keep up. But I'm also always excited to learn about a new planet to explore. So...I'll take it.) The crew uses Beckett posing as a Death Priest to get in on the take. They make it sound like they do the Death Priest bit quite a lot which makes me wonder. I would understand if it was just on this one planet where Death Priests might be a thing, but I've never heard of Death Priests before... Taking chase after Dvorad, they come across his ship waiting in the water.

Chapter Two: To Live and Die on Hovun IV, illustrated by Marc Laming
A giant tentacle monster (this thing is huge and scary) comes out to take down the ship and Beckett gets the ID chips. He had previously spliced a pilot droid into a ship called The Rampart which arrives to carry them to safety. And they take off with the goods.

Chapter Three: You and the Bantha You Rode In On, illustrated by Will Sliney
They fly into Munt Ontdal (a super seedy place) where I'm assuming they are meant to meet up with Dryden Vos of Crimson Dawn and then Enfys Nest shows up!!!! Oooh...big surprise!! Won't give it away here, but I love it. Go Enfys Nest <3 (I want more of her so bad!!) Then they lose The Rampart...guess we know why they didn't have a ship in the movie. But wait...if they didn't have a ship...how did they get to Mimban in the first place? Maybe that's answered in the movie novelization which I just started yesterday. Here's to hoping.

So all in all a fun read. No canon connections really and not necessary for understanding other aspects of Star Wars. I would have liked to see more interconnectedness with Solo: A Star Wars Story or at least some surprise connection from elsewhere to make it more relevant for understanding overall canon. Nonetheless, I found this comic an enjoyable journey.
