Resistance: Season 2: Episode 6: "From Beneath"
Resistance: Season 2: Episode 6: "From Beneath" written by Kevin Burke and Chris "Doc" Wyatt, directed by Steward Lee
What a fun episode!! Still no scenes involving Tam which was definitely a bummer, but we get more confirmation of Flix and Orka's romantic relationship and that makes my heart sing!! We also discover that Flix is a Gozzo--I can't remember if that was knowledge before or not, but I think it's my first time hearing it. We even get to venture to the Gozzo planet of Drahgor III!! The atmosphere is super stormy and foggy and Flix says he barely recognizes his planet which leads me to wonder, "Why?" He never goes into detail about what he means and I can only assume the planet's changing is because of all the mining occurring on and below the surface.
So of course the Colossus needs fuel and it turns out Flix's cousins own a fuel refinery on his home planet. So Kaz, Orka, Flix, Torra, and CB-23 use a transport ship to land on Drahgor III and ask for some fuel. But apparently, Flix didn't leave his family on the best of terms and he's worried about how the Colossus crew will be received. We do find out that part of the family trouble comes from Flix dreaming of being a cantina singer and looking down on the miner careers of his relatives. I wanna hear Flix sing!!!
The story point in this episode was that Flix's cousins have been deep-core drilling and Flix warns them that such actions will awaken the ancient dragons of legend!! His cousins think he's crazy but lo and behold...Flix is right and a whole family of dragons attacks. Luckily Flanx (Flix's cousin who's now in charge of the refinery) thinks fast and cuts the dragons off from causing further damage to the mines. Once everyone is safe again up at the surface, Flanx says, "That creature was only trying to protect its kin." and vows to stop deep-core drilling so as not to disturb the dragons and their natural habitat. He then tells Flix that everything's good between them and that he still cares about him because they're family. An ecological and family love lesson all rolled into one!! It's fantastic!!
And then we get to the Flix and Orka space-married awesomeness!!! Even if the show creators hadn't already confirmed that Flix and Orka were a gay couple, this episode solidified that reality!! It makes me so happy!! First off, at one point, Orka says, "I love that guy." after almost giving up a hard climb to the surface to get their shuttle and rescue Flix, Flanx, and Kaz from the dragons. This proclamation gives him new strength to continue upward. Then!!! One of the cousins, after Orka makes a big speech about saving his friends down below, says, "I can see why Flix likes that guy. He takes charge!" And another one says, "Yeah, good find!" Ahhhh!!!!! So it's definitely not being gay that alienated Flix from his family. They're accepting and loving toward him regardless of his choice in partner. Goodness I'm elated by all the happy gayness!!
So despite Tam not having any scenes, this episode was a super win in my book!! So happy that finally a gay couple has been introduced in Star Wars screen media!! And the dragons were definitely a fun touch! Plus getting to know more about Flix's planet was fascinating. I can't wait to see what comes next for our Colossus crew!
