Resistance: Season 2: Episode 8: "Rendezvous Point"
Oh my goodness!!! This episode had me in freaking tears of sadness? joy? delight? bitter sweetness? It really was both negative and positive emotions all rolled into one--literal tears were falling down my face. I didn't think this show could get any better what with the last two episodes, but this one was absolutely top notch!
We open on a space battle between the Colossus and First Order ships. The Aces are waiting for a signal from Doza before re-entering hyperspace and escaping their inevitable destruction. He's waiting for someone and at first, I thought he was waiting for Tam to defect...which I realize after the fact was a really dumb thought seeing as it was Yeager who had the connection to the defector, not Doza. But I couldn't think of who else he would be waiting for until they do exit into hyperspace, giving up the wait, and then an X-wing swoops in piloted by a very confused woman...who ends up being the main character of this episode...along with...Tam!!! We finally get more Tam action and it was so, well, see my intro paragraph for how it all felt.
After Torra has a blow up and walks out on the aces, Neeku reveals to Kaz that every year for the past 6 years on this particular day, Torra and her father have left the Colossus to go to an undisclosed location...something they can't exactly do with the current state of things. Kaz makes the connection that Leia started the Resistance 6 years prior and that the Dozas must be trying to contact them...but little does he know just how complicated matters will get. We're let in on a secret that I saw coming about a minute before it was exposed, but still, it's such a good one that I don't want to reveal it here even though its revelation occurs only about 7 minutes into the episode. We even have a Lost Stars-esque historical love story on our hands!! I am so smitten right now.
So the episode is basically about the Resistance pilot being captured by the First Order and then (in what I felt like was a very Ezra manner) escaping, holding Tam as a hostage (see image)...she even knows who Tam is and spends the entire time the girl is in her capture trying to convince her that she needs to go back to the Colossus and leave the First Order, that the FO is not all she thinks it is and cares much more about power than peace and order. Tam keeps referring to herself as DT-533 and it really is heartbreaking.
But, the episode is not without humor! For example, this little nugget from a stormtrooper: "We have an incendiary incident in Bay 2." It just sounds ridiculous and I love it.
Heartwarming, beautiful, heartbreaking, and delightful, this episode was beyond a winner!
