Journey to the Last Jedi: Captain Phasma comic #1

"Captain Phasma #1" written by Kelly Thompson, illustrated by Marco Checchetto
What brilliant imagery! What this comic lacks in sense, it more than makes up for in visual grandeur. The images were captivating and beautiful and had me totally immersed in the action. But the story left something lacking...
Despite the description of this comic, we are not told how Phasma gets out of the trash compactor...she's just suddenly out of it. And she thinks the following truly baffling statement: "I proceeded to the most immediate computer access point to ascertain how our shield defenses might have been penetrated." ...uhhh...they were penetrated because you let the shields down?? Now I still have high hopes for Phasma and have been truly enjoying the novel about her but, even with this new comic entry into her story, I think her giving in so easily to Finn, Chewie, and Han in Force Awakens was bewildering and kinda lame. This woman is seriously kick-butt in the novel and I do look forward to seeing her progress past this lameness in Last Jedi. But I digress, let's stick to the comic for the moment.
The whole comic is told in a sort of police investigation style which is interesting and something I haven't seen yet in the Star Wars universe - for that I was definitely intrigued. As for the plot, it seems Phasma was hoping someone else had messed with the shields before her so she wouldn't be to blame...and...she finds just such a traitor. This comic follows her as she pursues the man who actually let the shields down. Really weird turn of story, but I'm curious to see how it unfolds in the next issue. [UPDATE: He didn't let the shields down before her. He accessed the files that revealed she let the shields down before she had a chance to delete the files. She's after him now to eliminate all witnesses to her transgression. This is not clear until the second issue.] Plus, we may have gotten a glimpse of BB-9E that will continue with the story!!!! There will be 4 total in this short-run series.

This comic can be purchased digitally through Marvel.com.
